Adrenal Fatigue Q & A

What are adrenal glands?

You have two adrenal glands that sit close to the top of your kidneys. These important, thumb-shaped glands produce more than 50 hormones that are essential to your health and your life.

Chronic emotional, physical, and chemical stress can deplete your adrenal glands, so they don’t produce the hormones your body needs. As a result, you may be exhausted but unable to sleep, look older, feel anxious, and seem unable to enjoy life the way you used to.

What do my adrenal glands do?

Your adrenal gland is divided into two parts — the medulla and cortex — with each regulating a different set of hormones. The medulla is the inner part. It secretes hormones, such as adrenaline, which helps control your:

  • Heart rate
  • Blood pressure
  • Sweating

The other part of your adrenal gland, the cortex, secretes different hormones, which also control your blood pressure, as well as your salt levels. Your adrenal cortex also stimulates the production of testosterone and similar hormones.

Problems with your adrenal gland can produce the condition known as adrenal fatigue.

What is adrenal fatigue?

Adrenal fatigue is a chronic imbalance caused by the stressors of daily life. Adrenal fatigue typically involves a cluster of symptoms, such as:

  • Chronic fatigue
  • Body aches
  • Nervousness
  • Trouble falling asleep
  • Digestive problems

Among women, conditions such as anxiety or PMS may be a symptom of problems with your adrenal glands, and related to adrenal fatigue.

What’s the treatment for adrenal fatigue?

Dr. Saxena focuses on finding the root cause of your problem — whether it’s chemical, physical, or emotional. She often recommends an integrative treatment approach that includes physical activity, meal plans, meditation, and more.

She monitors your progress through an online bootcamp, which lasts 14 days or more. The benefits of the bootcamp include:

  • Improved sleep by calming your nervous and hormonal systems
  • Fewer late-night food cravings
  • Less brain fog
  • More energy
  • Optimal body weight thanks to meal plans and fewer cravings
  • Revitalized sex life

Some patients see an improvement as soon as 3-4 days after starting the bootcamp, although results vary.

If you’re ready to beat adrenal fatigue with a medically supervised treatment program, call Aveda Integrative Medical Center today or schedule a consultation online.
